     In recent 4 years, the different categories surveillance plates are extremely popular on the computer components market. They have wide application – surveillance of small offices and stores, Internet clubs, petrol stations and trade centers. On the one hand, their particular popularity is due to the felt want for security and on the other to the lower price and sensibly approved quality in comparison with the other systems without computer application. Usually such a system consists of computer configuration, PCI video-capture card with different number of entry ports (between 2 and 16), relevant number of video cameras and proper software product to manage all hardware components.      The security plate is PCI based, with one main and several additional chips, which provide the relevant compression and management and number of ports to connect the surveillance cameras. The ports number is between 1 and 24, sometimes more, but the most applicable plates have between 2 and 16 ports. However, this is not the main advantage of the security plates. Motion Detection – it is a software option, that gives the possibility to react to a movement and provides opportunity to mark a determined zone of the surveillance field and at a movement to start recording and proper alarming. The marking of critical sectors has three advantages – secondarily assure the most important zones, start recording after surveillance mode and  save disk space.

Record Time Set – This option provides reasonable distribution of the resources between the surveillance time and record time. If the consumer considers that the time zone between 9 P.M. and 7 A.M. is not risky due to the availability of guards, it is possible to program the record time for the period of 7 A.M. to 9 P.M.

Internet Surveillance – There is no doubt that no other security system can offer such an opportunity. It gives you the possibility to on-line supervise what happens in the site, without being there. Thus, you could receive complete information in every point of the world about the events in the site and enterprise adequate reaction.

Compression – one of the brilliant advantages of the contemporary security plates is the compression opportunities and disk space management.  They reach 300:1, which means that in practice it is possible to have complete record of 16 cameras on 150 MB! Imagine how much time you could record, if you use a standard 8 ports plate and a simple 40 GB hard disk. Beside this there is an option for automatically deleting of the oldest records, if free disk space is unavailable. This way, it is almost impossible to miss  a critical event.

Report Creation – This function is of high importance, because it gives a detailed report of each camera by date and time.

Additional Informing – this opportunity is very popular among the higher level consumers. It consists in informing by telephone call or pager in case of movement or signal loss of some camera.

Entry Signal Control –it is an independent control on the entry signal parameters for each source – scale, quality, brightness, contrast, color.

Smart Recording Technology (SRT) – the technology is being designed for those consumers, who would like to keep a constant (high) speed of precisely determined ports refreshment. This technology enables the system to keep automatically the necessary speeds, when it needs.

High dividing capacity – it is possible to record and supervise the signal from the sources at 720x576, 640x480 pixel, as well as at 320x240.

MPEG-4 Compatibility – this coding standard enables higher quality of the picture and could be used at Internet surveillance. 

Digital Watermark – now you can implant in the available images digital visible signs.

 It is possible to connect cameras on different level and with different characteristics to the security plate according to the needs and the specificity of the site. This advantage will be appreciated by every professional, but the consumer has to know, that the cameras prices vary form 50 to 250 USD. The opportunity for combining different level cameras saves money not at the quality expense, but because of the reasonable choice, depending on the site.

 Finally, let’s say something about the software – it is of very high importance. In practice, two cards with the same characteristics, but with different software have very different levels of security and opportunities. Don’t buy cheap card with cheap software, it is not a solution of your problems.
